How to Fix Faulty Key Repairs
A damaged key fob can throw off your whole day. With the right tools and guidelines, it's easy to fix these issues.
Before you begin any repairs, you must always be sure to ground yourself to eliminate static electricity. It only takes several seconds and is a good way to practice for working with electronics.
Check for any debris that has gotten caught underneath the bad key. Breadcrumbs and other bits may get stuck beneath keys, preventing the keys from being properly pushed in.
Broken Car Keys
Car keys are easy to overlook until they break or stop working at the most inconvenient times. If you're trying to open the trunk of your vehicle to buy groceries, opening your doors to go out or even driving your car and heading off to work, car keys can be extremely frustrating when they do not work.
Over time, car keys be subjected to the effects of wear and tear. The impact of knocking or dropping them can cause damage, and the internal parts could become worn out to the point that they are no longer functional. This is a serious problem that will mean you'll be unable to use your vehicle unless you have an additional key or your mechanic can fix the issue.
Fortunately, the majority of broken keys to cars can be repaired or replaced quickly. If the key is broken off in the lock or ignition, you can sometimes remove the remaining portion of the key with pliers or a coated wire. Additionally, a locksmith could offer you the necessary tools for removal that are designed to slide in along the key and place an apex-like grip to the broken pieces to securely take them out.
If the key to your car is broken in half, a simple and inexpensive fix can be to super glue the two pieces back together. It can be a challenge to get the pieces aligned properly, but it can yield excellent results. It's a good idea to keep a pair of scissors and a roll tape on hand in case you have to alter the alignment slightly.

Broken Key Fobs
Car key fobs are not indestructible, and like all electronic devices they can be susceptible to issues at some time. If they stop working, they're not difficult to repair. The first thing to do is figure out what's wrong.
The majority of the time, when a key fob stops working it's because the battery is dead. Replacing the battery is the simplest and least expensive solution, and it's something you can do at home.
If replacing the battery doesn't work, you can try taking it apart and cleaning it. The circuit board of the fob is comprised of "contact pads" that correspond to every button on the fob. (Lock buttons, trunk buttons etc.) The contact pads are made of rubber and are coated in an electrically conducting film that will eventually fade over time. Using a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol, you can wash the contacts of your key fob to get rid of any corrosion hindering their functioning.
If you suspect that your contacts are loose or broken, you can use a pair of tweezers. It is recommended to apply silicone to the back of the key fob before you insert the new contacts. Silicone will protect the contacts from out water.
Another reason for a malfunctioning key fob is that it is no longer paired with the vehicle. When you use a key fob, it sends the car a message that informs it of what you're trying to accomplish. If the key fob is unpaired, it won't recognize the car and not allow you to start the engine.
It's time to call a locksmith or a dealership technician if you can't get the key fob to connect with your car. They'll have the equipment to reprogram the key fob and make it functional again. It's likely that you'll have to pay for the service but it will be much cheaper than purchasing a brand new key fob.
Keys are not responsive
It can be a nightmare when a key on your computer ceases to function. The first step is to ensure that the key isn't being blocked by something physical. Over time, dust, hair and other debris can build up and cause interference to the circuitry of a key. Try gently removing the key and cleaning the area underneath it with a rag and ruby alcohol. This is sometimes all that's required to make your key work again.
If the key doesn't work, it's possible it's a problem with your software. Some keys are mapped to specific actions in games and if your key isn't performing as you expect it to, make sure you check your game settings to make sure that the key is correctly assigned to a specific action.
You might also try reinstalling your keyboard drivers to fix the problem. It is recommended to upgrade your drivers as often as you can to avoid having your keyboard stop functioning due to corrupted or outdated ones.
The key may be broken. Every key switch is composed of two circuits, and they could wear out in time to the point that they cannot longer register a press. If this is the situation it is recommended to replace the keyboard because the keyboard will not function properly.
If you've gone through all of these fixes and the keyboard is still not responding then it's time to get your laptop or external keyboard examined by a professional. There could be a physical problem with the membrane that covers your keyboard or it could be because one of the keys has become defective.

If your car key is electronic and cannot be turned by turning a manual metal key into the ignition, it's likely the transponder chip inside has stopped working, and you'll need to get an entirely new key programmed.
If your external keyboard or laptop keys seem to not be not registering any action in any way, you could try a key testing website. This can help you figure out if there's software interference or problems with the keyboard itself.
Another reason that a single key not performing its function is because the switch isn't functioning properly. If you have a mechanical keyboard it is easy to examine this by looking under the keycap and seeing if there is any debris that has accumulated on it. If you find something you want to remove, use canned air to clean it up and then remove the cap. This will allow you replace the hooks that connect the retainer and switch and hopefully restore function to your key.
If a key on your keyboard only does not perform its intended function in a single program, it's likely that the key has been assigned to another action via the game's keyboard settings. Check the settings of your keyboard and then try pressing the key again to see whether it's functioning properly. If not, it's probably better to purchase a new keyboard and install it by an expert. This is particularly true if you play a game which requires a lot more typing.
